Showcase Roman Period and Migration of Peoples

Finds from prehistory and early history are presented here. Three axe hammers and a hand axe were found in the river during the construction of the Neckar Bridge in 1901. A bowl from the Urnfield period around 1200 BC must probably be interpreted as a consecration find because of its location in impassable terrain. Vessel sherds from the Roman period and two Alemannic neck rings from around 350 AD attest to the further settlement of the region. In 260 AD, Alemannic groups overran the Limes. The neck rings from the middle of the 4th century were found during the construction of the Eberbach swimming pool; they probably belonged to graves that were not recognised and destroyed.
